Spay & neuter FAQ
Is spay or neuter surgery included in Hannah Membership?
Yes. Spay and neuter surgery is included in Total Lifetime Care® at no additional charge — including pre-anesthesia bloodwork, anesthesia, the surgical procedure, and routine recovery care. Performed by your Hannah veterinarian at our Portland or Tigard hospital.
When should I spay or neuter my Pet?
Recommended timing depends on your Pet’s species, breed, and size. Many small and medium dogs and most cats are typically spayed or neutered between 5 and 9 months of age, while many large-breed dogs benefit from waiting until they’re closer to skeletal maturity. Your Hannah veterinarian will recommend the right timing for your specific Pet during a wellness exam.
Is spay or neuter surgery safe?
Spay and neuter procedures are among the most common and routine surgeries veterinarians perform. Hannah veterinarians use modern anesthesia protocols, pre-anesthesia bloodwork to identify any underlying issues, and dedicated monitoring throughout the procedure. Complications are uncommon and typically minor.
What is recovery like?
Most Pets recover from spay/neuter surgery within 7 to 14 days. Typical post-op instructions include keeping your Pet calm and leash-walked only for two weeks, preventing licking of the incision (often with an e-collar), and watching for any redness, swelling, or discharge. Your Hannah veterinarian will provide specific instructions and is available for follow-up questions.
Where are spay and neuter procedures performed?
All spay and neuter surgeries are performed at our Portland or Tigard hospitals by Hannah veterinarians. We don’t perform these procedures at outside referral facilities under the Membership.
Does Hannah require my Pet to be spayed or neutered?
Hannah strongly recommends spay/neuter for long-term Pet health, but it is not strictly required. Members with intact Pets may pay an additional Intact Pet Fee under their Membership — see the Membership Agreement for details.
One important decision, made simple.
Total Lifetime Care® includes spay/neuter surgery so the timing is about your Pet’s health — not the bill.
